The Otley Garden Office

We first met John at the Harrogate Homebuilding & Renovation Show in 2023. He was looking for a dedicated home workspace — somewhere to focus, meet clients, and work comfortably a few days a week. Located on a prominent corner plot in Otley, West Yorkshire, his property required a design that looked striking from every angle, complemented new landscaping throughout the garden, and offered a low-maintenance, high-performance finish.

From the start, the brief focused on functionality and detail. The office needed to be soundproofed against nearby road noise, thermally efficient for year-round comfort, and visually refined to enhance the garden’s aesthetic. We collaborated closely with John, refining each design iteration until the final layout was exactly right.

Key design details included a corner glazed window, which softens the structure’s visual impact from the existing conservatory, and bifold doors that open the space fully in summer. Casement windows to both the front and rear allow natural airflow, supported by an integrated air filtration system that continuously purifies the air — perfect for a workspace environment.

The exterior features a concealed roof drainage system with a bespoke aluminium hopper, maintaining clean architectural lines without visible guttering — an important consideration for such a visible corner plot. The finished result is a sophisticated, quiet, and energy-efficient garden office that provides the perfect professional environment just steps from home.
