Set within a large countryside garden overlooking open fields, this stunning garden retreat was designed and built to create a peaceful workspace surrounded by nature. The client wanted a dedicated home office with uninterrupted views, and our goal was to design a structure that felt completely at home within its landscape.

Positioned thoughtfully in the centre of the plot, the garden room defines its own corner within the space — the deep canopy frames a picture-perfect view, drawing you out into the garden and creating a seamless connection between indoors and out.

To complement the rural setting, we chose Swedish timber cladding in a natural finish that will gracefully weather to a soft silver-grey. The Scandi-profile cladding provides a refined shadow gap detail, giving the building a timeless aesthetic. Accents of Corten steel around the roofline and decking add a warm, architectural contrast while protecting the structure from the elements.

Beneath the surface, this project showcases precision engineering. Built on ground screw foundations and a light-gauge steel frame with hot-rolled posts, the structure is made to withstand the exposed Northumberland winds. An integrated roof drainage system eliminates the need for traditional gutters, directing water neatly to a concealed aluminium hopper and downpipe connected to a 5,000-litre soakaway — solving a historic flooding issue on the site.

Inside, the garden room functions as a fully equipped professional office. Services were extended over 120 metres from the main house, providing reliable power and superfast internet connectivity. Large aluminium windows and bifold doors flood the space with natural light, while integral blinds ensure privacy and solar control throughout the day. The result is an enchanting modern retreat — beautifully crafted, effortlessly functional, and perfectly in tune with its surroundings.
