“Our client needed a dedicated garden office for the days they work from home rather than their main office in York. The new building was to replace an existing dog kennel, so part of the space needed to be carefully planned to retain a separate area for the dogs. It was important that the room could be used comfortably all year round, made the most of the surrounding countryside views, and sat naturally within its setting, particularly alongside the existing oak pergola.”

The client chose Scandinavian redwood cladding with a natural finish, selected for its durability and its ability to weather attractively over time. This timber requires minimal upkeep, typically only needing oiling every one to two years, and offers a lifespan of well over 50 years. It is installed in a shadow-gap profile and face-fixed using stainless steel screws, creating a clean, architectural finish.

To maintain a cohesive appearance with the main dwelling, anthracite windows and doors were specified to match the existing property, alongside heritage-style detailing to ensure the new structure complements its surroundings rather than competing with them.
